Cephalometric & panoramic x-rays

Dr. Jivan offers digital cephalometric and panoramic x-ray technology in the comfort of her Toronto dental office. There is no need for a specialist referral.  General x-rays give Dr. Jivan a view of the teeth, jawbone and soft tissues. However, cephalometric and panoramic and panoramic x-rays display the nasal and sinus passages, which are missed by intraoral bitewing x-rays.  Cephalometric X-rays are not as common as “full sets” or bitewing X-rays, but they serve several important functions:

  • Provide views of the side profile of the face
  • Provide views of the jaw in relation to the cheekbone
  • Allow measurement of the teeth
  • Identify fractures and other injuries to the teeth and jawbone
  • Assists in orthodontic planning
  • Provide information about “bad bites” or malocclusions

Dr. Anca Jivan MouthguardsSport Mouthguards

Any sport activity can put your teeth at risk. That’s why it’s so important to protect your smile with a sport mouthguard. Sport mouthguards protect your teeth from getting broken, chipped or, worse, knocked out.

Custom mouthguards are available at Dr. Jivan’s Toronto dental office. A dental sport mouthguard is ideal for any patient involved in sports. With custom sportguards, you can avoid all the pitfalls that come with the over-the-counter versions: poor fit and poor quality.

TMJ Therapy

Certain mouthguards can help with snoring and TMJ disorders. If you’re prone to grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw in your sleep, you could be waking up with chronic headaches, earaches and jaw pain. Wearing a dental mouth guard can help prevent grinding teeth while sleeping, but you’ll need to practice some self-restraint during the day. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol and chewing gum as well as reducing stress may be necessary.

Custom mouthguards can also help with snoring and sleep apnea. A custom mouthguard prevents your jaw and tongue from dropping back and blocking the airway, which is what causes the annoying snore. Speak Dr. Jivan to find out whether a snoring mouthguard is right for you.

Velscope Oral Cancer Screening

velscopeOral Cancer can be a potentially deadly type of cancer but if detected early, the survival rate for patients is 83%. The Velscope is a safe and revolutionary handheld device that shines a blue light and highlights abnormal oral tissue and lesions that could indicate oral cancer. Velscope doesn’t use any dyes or rinses and is completely non-invasive, pain-free and it could save your life.
